Here is everything you will need to make this pineapple banana smoothie:
- Frozen banana: I recommend keeping peeled and chopped bananas in your freezer so they are ready for smoothies.
- Frozen pineapple: Buying a bag of frozen pineapple chunks from the grocery store is easiest.
- Chia seeds: For some plant-based omega 3s.
- Water: For blending.
Use frozen fruit. Frozen fruit will make your smoothie chilled, thick, and smooth. To keep things simple, you can buy pre-frozen bags of pineapple chunks.
For the banana, I recommend keeping your freezer stocked with plenty of bananas for making smoothies. Before freezing them, peel your bananas and cut them in half. Then layer them in air-tight containers, separating each layer with a piece of parchment paper so they don’t all freeze together.
Blend the chia seeds. Instead of just mixing chia seeds into your smoothie, I recommend blending them right in. This will give your smoothie a nice smooth texture.
Adjustments and substitutions
Use milk if you’d like. I use water to blend this smoothie, but you could also use your milk of choice. Some great plant-based options would be plain oat or almond milk. Don’t use a flavored milk because that would affect the flavor of the smoothie.
Use hemp seeds instead of chia seeds. If you don’t have chia seeds or you just don’t want them in your smoothie, hemp seeds are a great substitute. You could also just omit the chia seeds, but they add some extra nutrition to your smoothie.
