Here is what you will need to make this smoothie:
Frozen banana: Using frozen banana is essential for this smoothie. It will make your smoothie cool, thick, and creamy.
Orange juice: Orange juice will give this smoothie a delicious flavor and help with blending.
Spinach: The taste of spinach in this smoothie is undetectable, while adding plenty of nutrients!
Oat milk: Oat milk is a great plant-based milk for smoothies. You could also try any other milk that you like.
Chia seeds: Chia seeds add some plant-based protein and healthy fats. They will also add a bit more thickness to your smoothie.
How to make
To make this orange banana spinach smoothie, simply add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
Make sure you blend very thoroughly to ensure that the spinach gets completely blended. You don’t want to end up with pieces of spinach in your smoothie!
Tips
Don’t pack the spinach tightly. When you are measuring out 1 cup of spinach, don’t press it down too much. If you pack your measuring cup too tightly, you may be able to taste the spinach.
If you don’t pack it too tightly, you shouldn’t be able to taste the spinach at all!!
Blend in your chia seeds. Instead of just stirring your chia seeds into this smoothie, blend them up with all the other ingredients. This will create a nice, smooth texture.
Chop your banana before blending. I usually peel and chop my bananas into quarters before freezing them. If your bananas were frozen whole, you will still be able to chop them with a sharp knife before adding them to your blender.
Chopping your bananas first will allow them to blend more easily. This is especially helpful for those who do not have a high-powered blender.
Adjustments and substitutions
If you don’t want to use oat milk, you can try a different type of milk. Just make sure you don’t use a milk with a strong, overpowering taste. I would avoid coconut milk unless you don’t mind tasting some coconut in this smoothie.
You may omit the chia seeds, but they provide added nutrition and help to thicken the smoothie slightly. You can also use hemp seeds instead of chia seeds.
Smoothies are easily customizable, so if you find the taste of spinach too strong, simply add some more orange juice or a bit of frozen banana. If you don’t pack the spinach too tightly when measuring, you should even taste it at all!
