Here is what you will need for this banana milkshake:
- Frozen banana: Must be frozen to create a a smooth and creamy texture.
- Vanilla ice cream: Can be vegan or dairy-free if desired.
- Milk of choice: I tested a variety of plant-based milks that all tasted great in this milkshake.
- Maple syrup: Optional for some added sweetness.
How to make
Making this banana milkshake is incredibly easy! All you need to do is add the ice cream, milk, and frozen banana to a blender.
Then just blend until smooth! Give it a taste and add some maple syrup if you want your milkshake to be a bit sweeter.
If you can’t get your milkshake blended, add a bit more milk very slowly. If you add too much your milkshake will become too thin.
Tips
Make sure you use frozen bananas! This is essential to help create a thick and creamy texture.
Chop your banana before adding it to your blender. It’s best to peel and chop your banana before freezing, but if your banana is already frozen, you can still chop it! This will allow it to blend more easily with less milk. Less milk = thicker milkshake!
Measure the ice cream by tightly packing it into a measuring cup. If you don’t measure the ice cream properly, you may be using less than what is ideal for this recipe. If you realize that your milkshake is too thin, you can always add more ice cream to your blender.
If your blender is struggling to blend this milkshake, add a bit more milk. Don’t add too much though, because your milkshake will get too thin.
To make your milkshake thicker, add more ice cream or frozen banana.
Adjustments and substitutions
Use dairy-free ice cream if desired. Any vanilla-flavored ice cream should work well for this milkshake.
Use any milk that doesn’t have an overpowering flavor. I like to use plant-based milk, and my favorites for this milkshake are cashew milk or oat milk.
Add maple syrup if desired. If you want your milkshake to be sweeter, a bit of maple syrup is a great addition! If your milkshake is already sweet enough, simply omit the maple syrup.
Toppings
You don’t need to add any toppings to your banana milkshake, but here are some ideas if you want to:
- Chocolate sauce
- Caramel sauce
- Fruit (cherries, chopped strawberries, or any other fruit you like)
- Chopped nuts
- Whipped cream (use coconut cream for dairy free)
- Sprinkles
