Here is what you will need for this smoothie bowl:
Frozen banana: Must be frozen to create a smooth and creamy smoothie bowl.
Frozen strawberry slices: Your strawberries must also be frozen to create a thick smoothie bowl. You can buy pre-sliced and frozen strawberries or slice and freeze your own.
Almond milk or oat milk: A different milk should work as well, but these two are my favorites and have a fairly neutral taste.
Peanut Butter (optional)
Vanilla extract (optional)
Why you’ll love it
This strawberry banana smoothie bowl is:
- Easy to make
- Vegan
- Packed with nutrients
- Thick and creamy
Instructions
Start by freezing your fruit if it isn’t already frozen.
For the strawberries, I buy pre-sliced and frozen so it’s ready to go. If you are freezing your own strawberries, slice them first, then freeze. They need to be sliced to make measuring them more accurate.
To freeze the banana, start by peeling and slicing. It is best to slice the banana so that it will blend more easily.
Once you have sliced your bananas, place them in layers in a container, separating each layer with parchment paper. Then place the container in the freezer until the slices are completely frozen through.
Once your ingredients are prepared, add everything to your food processor or blender, then blend until smooth.
Scrape down the sides as needed, and add a bit of extra milk if required.
Tips
Use a food processor if you want a super thick smoothie bowl. It will be easier to blend with less liquid if you use a good quality food processor. I find this works better than a blender, even a high-powered one like a Vitamix.
Add more milk slowly if needed. If you really need more milk to get things blended, make sure you just add a tablespoon at a time. If you add too much liquid, your smoothie bowl will become too thin.
Slice your banana before blending. If you put whole bananas or even banana halves into your blender or food processor, they will be very difficult to blend with such little liquid. To make blending easier, slice your bananas into several pieces before blending. You can even slice them if they are already frozen. Frozen bananas can be cut quite easily with a sharp knife.
Adjustments and substitutions
You can pretty much use any type of milk you’d like. I recommend oat milk or almond milk if you want to keep this smoothie bowl plant-based. These milks both have a fairly neutral taste so they will not alter the taste of the smoothie bowl.
Peanut butter and vanilla extract are optional ingredients for added flavor. You definitely don’t need to add them, but they are great additions!
Toppings
You don’t need to add any toppings to your smoothie bowl, but here are some ideas if you’d like toppings:
- Chopped nuts (my favorite is chopped peanuts)
- Shredded coconut
- Chocolate sauce
- Chopped chocolate
- Fruit (banana slices or any other fruit of choice)
- Granola

Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl
This strawberry banana smoothie bowl is thick, creamy, and such a healthy treat! It is vegan and you can add any toppings you like!
Ingredients
- 1 ½ frozen bananas
- 1 cup frozen strawberry slices
- ¼ cup almond or oat milk
- 1 tablespoon peanut butter (optional)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a high-powered blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Stop to scrape down the sides as needed.
Notes
You may need to add some more milk to get this smoothie bowl blended. I like mine to be super thick, so I use my food processor which works well with little liquid. With a blender you will likely need more liquid.
