Here is what you will need for this pumpkin smoothie bowl:
Canned pumpkin puree – make sure it is 100% pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling.
Frozen banana – it absolutely must be frozen to create a thick smoothie bowl.
Pumpkin pie spice – to create a delicious pumpkin pie flavor.
Vanilla extract – for some added flavor.
Almond butter – peanut butter will also work.
Maple syrup – for added sweetness!
Oat milk of almond milk – for blending.
How to make
Making this smoothie bowl is as easy as adding all ingredients to a high-powered blender or food processor and blending until smooth. I recommend using a high quality food processor to make blending easier.
If you can’t get things blended, add a bit more milk and try again. Continue until you can blend everything, making sure to not add too much extra milk. You want this smoothie bowl to be thick and scoop-able!
Tips
Freeze your bananas in pieces: To make blending easier, I recommend freezing your bananas in 3-4 pieces. Peel your bananas, then cut them into pieces and freeze them in a container. Keep a bunch of frozen banana pieces in your freezer at all times if you love making smoothies!
Use a high-quality food processor: I like my smoothie bowls to be pretty thick so that they are nicely scoop-able. In order to achieve this thick texture, you need to avoid adding too much liquid.
To get this smoothie bowl blended with very little liquid, you will need a high-powered blender or food processor. I have found that it works better with a food processor. Scrape down the sides as needed and only add a bit of extra milk if needed.
Adjustments and substitutions
- You can use any type of milk you like to blend this smoothie bowl. I prefer using oat milk or almond milk, but another plant-based milk would work well. Try to choose something that doesn’t have an overpowering taste to avoid changing the taste of the smoothie bowl.
- I like adding almond butter to this smoothie, but you could also use peanut butter or omit the nut butter altogether if you don’t want any. If you are concerned about the calorie count of this smoothie bowl, omitting the nut butter is a quick way to lower it.
- I recommend 1 tablespoon of maple syrup for this pumpkin smoothie bowl, but you can adjust the sweetness based on your preference.
- If your blender or food processor isn’t powerful enough to blend this smoothie bowl with just ¼ cup of milk, add a bit more until it is blended. Make sure you don’t add too much, or it will make the smoothie bowl too thin.
Toppings for a pumpkin smoothie bowl
This pumpkin smoothie bowl is great without toppings, but here are some suggestions if you want some toppings:
- Chopped nuts
- Chopped chocolate
- Sliced banana
- Shredded coconut
- Chocolate sauce
